Artist manager Jim Guerinot formed the Time Bomb label in 1995 in Laguna Beach, California, as a vehicle for anything that would qualify as alternative rock music, punk and indie rock in particular. Its most popular artist was the band Social Distortion (indeed, the label’s first few releases were reissues of albums the group release prior to the label’s founding); the label was also home to such acts as Peter Searcy, Mike Ness, No Knife, Berlin, and the Amazing Crowns. It also allowed the Goldenvoice label to use its numbering system for the purpose of issuing two albums recorded by the crime-fighting superhero punk band The Aquabats.

The label was distributed by Arista from 1995 until 2000. From then onward, its releases became sporadic, with one album being done under Sony Music distribution and two others being distributed by BMG, with a Social Distortion compilation arriving by way of RED Distribution. It has even gone its own way for some 2014 releases by the Offspring.

Arista-distributed Time Bomb releases were in a 70930–43500 series. The vinyl releases used a label with a white top half and a black bottom half. The top half featured a logo with a clock strapped to a series of explosives and the text “TIME BOMB RECORDINGS” in a typewriter font. The text ring read “Time Bomb Recordings, 219 Broadway #519, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Manufactured and Distributed by Arista Records, Inc., a Bertelsmann Music Group Company, 6 West 57th Street, N.Y., N.Y., 10019. Manufactured in U.S.A.” This discography covers only the Arista-distributed era of Time Bomb Recordings.
